After a juicy and intentional practice, we’ll continue to express and explore rhythm and harmony and shift our circle and play with drums or other percussion instruments provided by Cindy. Our celebration will culminate with a nourishing potluck. Sharing a meal with other humans is a great way to settle into community to cultivate feelings of belonging. In our Spontaneous Prana Vinyasa Flow Yoga + Improvised Percussion classes, each individual is encouraged to flow through asana, pranayama, mantra, mudra and meditation with the integrated rhythm of their breath and heartbeat in order to liberate the spontaneous flow of consciousness moving through them. You will unwind into your naturally beautiful Self and move to a rhythm, in practice and in the world, that is more in tune with your authentic groove.

I’m honored to be joining forces with Angela Hsu, at Hot Asana Durham, for a unique workshop all about healing. She’ll guide you through a gentle warm flow that evolves into a combination of myofascial release, yin, and restorative yoga infused with Reiki. This class will conclude with an extra special savasana, as Alisha Nissenfeld will envelop you with the healing vibrations of a gong bath. "Sound & music are nutrients for the nervous system. The gong resonates all cells of the body as it travels through skin, muscles, bones, and the subtle body,” raising an individuals internal vibratory frequency. The layers of sound produced by the gong help reduce stress, stimulate the glandular system, and serves as a powerful energetic source to break up emotional, physiological and spiritual blockages. Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) is an empirically validated, clinical intervention for complex trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). TSY methodology is based on central components of the Hatha style of yoga, where participants engage in a series of physical forms and movements. Elements of traditional Hatha yoga are modified to build a trauma survivors' experiences of empowerment and cultivate a more positive relationship to one's body.
Central to the TSY practice is for the facilitator to offer opportunities for participants to be in charge of themselves based on a felt sense of their own body. Practitioners will be guided to focus on the internal experience rather than external form. This shift in orientation, from the external to the internal, is a key attribute of TSY as a complementary treatment for complex trauma. With this approach, the power resides within the individual, not the yoga teacher. Further, by focusing on the felt sense of the body to inform choice-making, TSY allows participants to restore their connection of mind and body and cultivate a sense of agency that is often compromised as a result of trauma. $45

You Call This Yoga is gearing up for our 7th annual YogaFest NC on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the McKimmon Center at the NCSU campus in Raleigh, NC. This special event brings together the North Carolina community for an all-day retreat featuring diverse yoga and holistic healing practices.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life for people of all skill and mobility levels, as well as to introduce them to new experiences and community resources. YogaFest NC serves as our main fundraiser to support year-round programs that help the physically challenged and under-served improve their lives with yoga.
Through a practice of slow and easeful movement we will explore the ancient Yogi roadmap inward toward the “Self”. We will cultivate strength and balance in the physical body and investigate a multidimensional breath practice to help us feel a shift in our energy. We will notice sharpness and clarity of mind through intention infused mantra. We will offer personal mudra and be guided through visualizations to enhance and affirm our ability to realize our true nature of bliss and oneness. With ample props for support and soothing sounds, this class is meant to offer each practitioner the space to relax and heal physically, mentally and emotionally.
Let’s come together in the spirit of community as we emerge from our caves of winter hibernation. You will experience a hybrid yoga practice offered by Carson Efird + Alisha NIssenfeld celebrating the natural balance of day and night, inhale and exhale, activation and restoration.
